Alpacas are gentle and sociable, smart and alert, easy to care for and economical to feed. Alpacas offer an alternative to traditional livestock, breaking down barriers that prevent some from enjoying the ranching lifestyle.
Alpacas are small and easy to handle. They don't bite or butt, have horns, hooves or claws. They are safe , gentle and can easily be handled by children.
Five to 10 Alpacas can be kept per acre. Having only lower teeth, alpacas graze gently, nibbling tender grass rather than pulling it out by the roots. Weighing an average of 150 - 175 pounds and having padded feet rather than hooves, they don't disturb the soil or beat down a pasture like heavier livestock.
